TL;DR — Buy a USJ Express Pass when your date is fixed, the park will be busy and two or more headline rides matter to you. The Express Pass is separate from park admission. Some versions include guaranteed timed entry to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD; others do not. Compare the named rides and entry times, not only “Express 4” or “Express 7.”

01What is the USJ Express Pass?

Universal Express Pass uses shorter queues for a specified set of attractions. It is an add-on, not an admission ticket: every visitor still needs a Studio Pass to enter Universal Studios Japan.

02Is the Express Pass worth it?

Yes on peak dates, for first-time visitors with one day, or when missing Mario Kart, Mine Cart Madness or another specific ride would spoil the trip. It can turn several long waits into a structured sequence and may secure entry to SUPER NINTENDO WORLD.

Skip it on a quiet weekday if you can arrive before opening, stay until closing and accept some queueing. Also skip it when the package’s included rides do not match your group: the number printed on the pass matters less than the actual attraction list.

03Which Express Pass should you choose?

Start with your non-negotiable ride, then work backward.

  1. Choose SUPER NINTENDO WORLD access first. Look for a package that explicitly includes area timed entry if the land is essential.
  2. Check the exact ride list. Express 4, 5, 7 and premium variants are bundles, not universal quality levels.
  3. Read every timed slot. A package can schedule Mario early and Harry Potter late, affecting the entire day.
  4. Check height and safety requirements. A pass has little value if someone cannot ride its headline attractions.
  5. Buy the same compatible package for the group. Each guest needs an individual pass and follows its printed times.

04How does SUPER NINTENDO WORLD entry work?

From 5 January 2026, the official USJ app is required to obtain same-day Area Timed Entry or Standby Entry tickets. Register each Studio Pass in the app after entering the park, then request a free timed slot if distribution is open.

Certain Express Passes and ticket packages include advance timed entry. This is the more reliable route when SUPER NINTENDO WORLD is the reason for the visit. Timed entry gets you into the area; it does not itself shorten the ride queues unless the relevant ride is also listed on your Express Pass.

Read USJ's official SUPER NINTENDO WORLD entry guidance before your visit because app and timed-entry rules can change.

05A practical one-day USJ plan

Arrive 60–90 minutes before the published opening time because gates can begin processing guests earlier. If your Express Pass does not include Nintendo entry, scan your Studio Pass into the official app and request a timed slot immediately after entry.

Use the quiet opening hour for a popular ride not covered by your Express Pass. Follow every printed Express time exactly—late arrival usually cannot be moved or refunded. Eat before 11:30 or after 14:00, and leave flexible attractions for the afternoon gaps between timed bookings.

06When should you buy?

Buy as soon as your visit date is fixed for weekends, Japanese holidays, spring break, summer and Halloween season. Express inventory is limited and the best ride combinations often disappear first. Because packages can be non-refundable or date-specific, confirm your Osaka dates before checkout.

07USJ Express Pass FAQ

Does the USJ Express Pass include park admission?

No. You need a separate Studio Pass for admission. The Express Pass only provides benefits for the attractions and timed areas printed on that package.

Does every Express Pass include SUPER NINTENDO WORLD entry?

No. Some packages include guaranteed timed-area entry and some do not. Read the package inclusions for your date rather than relying on the Express 4 or Express 7 name.

Can I enter SUPER NINTENDO WORLD without an Express Pass?

Yes, if you obtain a free same-day Area Timed Entry or Standby Entry ticket in the official app, or if USJ allows open entry at that moment. Distribution can end early on busy days.

Can an Express Pass be shared?

No. Each guest needs their own pass, and each listed attraction benefit is generally used once. Keep the full ticket screen and QR code available for staff.

What happens if I miss a timed ride?

USJ states that missed designated times cannot be changed or refunded. Build buffer time into the schedule and do not join a long standby queue immediately before an Express reservation.

Is Express 7 always better than Express 4?

Not necessarily. Express 7 covers more attractions, but Express 4 can be the better buy when its four rides exactly match your priorities. Compare ride names, timed entry and group eligibility.
